Release Date: Jan. 6, 2026

CHARLESTOWN, Ind. – The City of Charlestown is presenting an opportunity to deepen the understanding of city government and engage in civic discussion through a series of engagement courses.

Hosted by the City of Charlestown and Mayor Treva Hodges, the Develop Charlestown Workshops will allow 20 Charlestown citizens to gain more knowledge of city operations, identify goals, and create project ideas over six weeks.

“I often receive messages from residents who have ideas about how we can improve our community,” said Hodges. “I love that they want to be engaged and I developed this workshop series to give them a platform to do so in a way that will have real, deliverable results. My hope is that members participate and get to see their project or initiative completed in 2026.”

Participants will learn about municipal structure, finance, laws, and planning. There will also be opportunities to identify and develop project ideas, budget for projects, and seek potential funding sources.

The 6-week civic engagement course will take place on Thursdays from Jan. 29 through March 5 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Charlestown Public Library, 51 Clark Road.

This opportunity is open to Charlestown residents only. There is no registration fee, but an expectation to attend all sessions. The minimum age to participate is 12-years-old and there is a 20-participant maximum.
