CHARLESTOWN, Ind. – On Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, the City of Charlestown recognized the 100-year anniversary of the Alpha Theta chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority by proclaiming the month of December 2023 as Psi Iota Xi month.
The proclamation was read and signed by Mayor Treva Hodges during a ceremony. The sorority has provided philanthropic gifts to students, schools, and organizations in the Charlestown community. Historically, the chapter focused on the field of speech pathology and audiology. Since its inception, they have grown to include a focus on cultural experiences of art, literature, and music.
Psi Iota Xi recently celebrated with a Mosaic Arts Expo at the Venro Venue where local authors, musicians, and artists enjoyed fellowship in Charlestown.
“We acknowledge the work and dedication of the 100-year history of Psi lota Xi, past, present, and future members,” said Hodges. “We thank you for your work over the past 100 years and your commitment to our community.”
Notable fundraisers include holding seasonal flower sales and selling popular cheeseballs in December. Commemorating the 100-year anniversary, the sorority is selling 2024 calendars featuring images of Charlestown.
Sue Wood is the longest serving member of the sorority, at over 60 years of service. Many in the organization have served for over 30 years.
