[ARCHIVED] City Partners with University of Louisville for a Tree Study

tree study

Have you seen people in city parks and around town looking at trees?

Thanks to a partnership with the University of Louisville, a tree study is taking place this summer in the City of Charlestown. Funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, research students and leaders are mapping tree data along with collecting information (species, location, canopy size, height, and overall health).

The eight-week research project will wrap up in early August with a presentation for city leaders and residents. The data will be used to aid Charlestown’s development and sustainability.

The team’s Mission & Vision: We intend to improve Charlestown’s biodiversity, quality of life, sustainable infrastructure, and overall vitality. We are also aiming to make Charlestown an official tree city!

Project leaders from the University of Louisville include Dr. Faisal Aqlan, Dr. Patrick Exmeyer, and Ashley Jaggers. Project mentors include Eli Miller and Charlestown resident Frank Walden. Project team members are Caleb Martin, Ellie Nelson, and Morgan Bentley. ISA Certified Arborist Keegan Price of Eager Beaver has volunteered his time as well.
