The City of Charlestown Legislative Youth Advisor attends all meetings of the Common Council, serving as a non-voting advisor to the municipal legislative body (Mayor and Common Council), and as a point of contact for other young citizens to express their perspectives and opinions about issues that affect the day-to-day operations of Charlestown city government.
Applicants must be between the ages of 14-18, may attend any school but must be a resident of Charlestown within the municipal city limits, and demonstrate strong character, leadership skills as well as exemplary academic performance. Interested and qualified students who will turn 14 before the end of the calendar year are also encouraged to apply.
The advisor must be able to attend monthly council meetings on the first Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m., receive communication from other young people to present when applicable, and attend a monthly meeting with the Mayor.
