Open Air Parks
Charlestown has several parks. Greenway Park, across Market Street from the City Square has a pavilion, two covered bridges over a meandering stream, waterfall, shelter-house, basketball court, playground equipment and concession stand that is open key times throughout the year. Three seasons of the year it is a great place to enjoy the open spaces, quietly sit and read, have a picnic, or bring the youngsters to play. Movies in the Park events are held in Greenway park. During Christmas in Charlestown, that kicks off on the Friday after Thanksgiving, Greenway Park is transformed into a beautiful spectacle of lights with shooting stars, deer, a lighted archway down into the park, lighted decorations of all kinds and a 50 foot tall Christmas Tree.
Church Street Park, located in north Charlestown, is a fun place to have a picnic or bring the children to play.
Jennings Plaza, a.k.a the City Square, across from City Hall, has a gazebo that provides shelter for an afternoon picnic, some tables, and plenty of trees. During Christmas in Charlestown the gazebo is enclosed and used as the “brain” for an amazing Animated Light Show.
