Kristin Cox is the City of Charlestown’s Director of Youth and Family Sports. She is a 1992 graduate of Charlestown High School where she played basketball. After high school, she continued her basketball career at the University of Louisville where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Administration and a Masters in Higher Education. Following college, Kristin worked at the University of Louisville as a counselor for Health and Sport Science majors and led the College of Education’s NCAA certification of student-athletes.

While a student at Charlestown High School, Cox (formerly known as Kristin Mattox) was runner-up Miss Basketball and named to the Indiana All-Star basketball team, in 1992, the first in school history. She was awarded the John Wooden Award while playing for the Indiana All-Star team, which honors a male and female All-Star each year for their commitment to academics, community service, and mental attitude.

 At the University of Louisville, Cox started all four years, earning Metro Conference All-Freshman team and Conference USA All-Conference team. Her senior year she earned the NCAA Statistical Champion Award for Highest Free Throw Percentage in the country at 92.1% for a season. She is still ranked in the top 10 among University of Louisville Women’s Basketball records for total career points, total 3-point field goals for a season and career, and free throw percentage. She is currently ranked 5th on the all-time scoring list for U of L Women’s Basketball. In 2009, she was inducted into the University of Louisville Athletic Hall of Fame. In December 2014, Kristin’s college jersey was honored during a U of L women’s basketball game and now hangs permanently in the rafters of the KFC Yum! Center. In 2017 Kristin was named to the Indiana High School Athletic Association Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Aniversary Team.

Cox leads the city in implementing its plan to offer a variety of youth and family sports programs to the residents of Charlestown. Cox teams with the Charlestown Sports Council to build on the interests of local students, develop sports leagues and fitness programs for all Charlestown residents.
