Charlestown is transforming in a major way as regional changes take place, including the River Ridge Commerce Center and the new East End Bridge connecting eastern Jefferson County, KY to southern Indiana. Major efforts are in the works to make our city even more hospitable to the positive changes headed our way. The Redevelopment Commission and City Council are in the process of updating our Comprehensive Plan, the process has begun to redevelop blighted areas, and we continue to build on the tremendous success we have had working with the Charlestown schools to prepare our students for the ever-changing job market. As companies have done their investigations to see where the best place in this region is to locate, time and again Charlestown tops the list. In 2015, the first business opened in the Charlestown portion of River Ridge and there are two new manufacturing facilities under construction there now. Unlike some other parts of Clark County, Charlestown is also uniquely poised for residential growth. There is much land nearby that can be developed for new homes as River Ridge adds more jobs and the bridge makes our area more accessible to people who may work in Louisville but want to reside in southern Indiana.
